For loggings sake, since none of the principles decided to post:
Ridgely on Sunday:
pretty marginal day. pilots there: the Permenters, Mike Chevalier, Robert Sweeney, Rolf Goedhart, almost (again) pilot Paul (forgot last name), Nick Stammers showed up briefly (didn't fly), Steve Vogel (didn't fly, flew Saturday), Geoff Mumford (didn't fly, tinkered with a motorized air vehicle), Larry Huffman (didn't fly, waiting to heal), me (didn't fly, waiting to heal) and Marc Fink. I'm sure I'm forgetting someone. Apologies. And some tandem ppls.
Paul used to fly in the 80s(?), one of the MHGA founders. He took a couple of tandems to get back into the swing of things. Marc tried out his new Laminar MR2000 and loved it. He took it to 65mph with no control issues and found landing a cinch, too. The Permenters and Marc actually managed to stay up for quite a while (didn't check the time, maybe an hour or more?) hunting all over the sky for some lift and sometimes specking out. But you could tell it was a struggle. Larry helped out, by grabbing a radio and giving directions to promising lift.
You gotta talk to the pilots if you want actual lift rates and altitude gains. I thought it was pretty interesting to see what good pilots can do with marginal conditions.

Nick flew the Sonic Saturday and early Sunday enjoying what there was of his visit and he was good enough to present birthday boy Vogel with a bottle of Glennfiddich Sat. night which was dutifully consumed by the participants.
Strange day Sunday as I got dropped off near a great looking cloud but just could not find the feed. Sunk out but watching Rae try and pull a save from a few hundred over the lz, she did for a time but we both got left behind, whatever lift I hit was 50-100'.
What seemed to work was the big black cummie that filled a quarter of the sky to the SW horizon, nice slab o lift but no one went anywhere. The isolated clouds promised much but didn't deliver.

I've got two exciting announcements:
1) Last week Lynn Barnes took her first solo at Ridgely! It's been a long time coming. Congratulations Lynn, wish you were on the listserver to pass it on in person.
2) Joe McMannus is typically too modest to spread the word publically, but between Richard Hays and Lookout Mountain he's polished off his H2 foot-launch, and is rated for cliff launch as well. You've seen him at Ridgely, we can now look forward to seeing him in the mountains.
