I caught up with Steve, Greg and Terry on lauch around 12. There were medium small cummies popping off of the far ridge, coming straight in, getting ratty over launch and reforming over the next valley.

Thermals started building around 12:30 and were pumping by 2. We all chose good cycles and scraped around at 300 over waiting for good ones. It was ratty and broken until we were about 500 over. They started out punchy and got bigger and better formed as the day went on. By 4:30 they were fat and weak.

My max was 2280', Greg topped out at 6300', he and Steve went north and Steve lawn darted over the back. Terry managed to miss em all, got frustrated and landed after an hour and a nice low save. I almost got flushed at the country club but got a low save at 500' ALZ and managed to get back to the primary. Terry and Greg were waiting in the LZ to give me a ride to the top but the cornfields beyond launch were working and I hooked a fat one at about 900 AGL and went back to 3000 AGL. Thereby missing my ride. (My first true flatland thermal. Nice feeling). Sheila and Mark arrived late and got a 20 min scrape in the last of the ratty ridge lift. I waded, hoofed, and hitched and was back at the top in 45 minutes: not bad!

Beautious day and weeell worth playing hookey! :-)

Well, I simply gotta play up the prospects for flying at the rock tonight...
Intellicast is showing NW at 15 at 2pm, then 5-10NW at 8pm. A better forecast couldn't be had for a late day glass-off flight!
Come on out, that's what these long days of summer are for! :-) I'm hitting the road at 4:00.

And it WAS great. After boating around for an hour in the shade, the high crap finally moved off and within 20 minutes I was at 4k over. Rob and I made several accents to over 3k. Mark C, Kelvin, Dave P and Kurt flew later in the day. Unfortunately it had turned north cross, but they all made the best of it and had good flights anyway. Great to see Susan and the girls out. Anyone know if Susan flew later?

Landing at the country club can have its downside. The driveway is 1 mile long, and uphill all the way to the road. And there is a locked gate at the road...... so, if no one is home it can be a lonnnnnnnng carry out. Just ask Bacil.

We had fun at High Rock yesterday. The early arrivals (Brian H, and Rob Millman) were rewarded with great altitude gains, but us mere mortals who launched in the second wave starting at 6PM had to be satisfied with more modest flights. Kurtis, Kelvin, Mark C, and myself all got over an hour with gains in the 1000 to 1500 range. Smooth glass air, good way to end the day.

I propose we adopt this as the new flight etiquette replacing the standard "Hey you stupid #@**!".

Yes, it truly is the ultimate sacrifice! Of course the pessimists could say that it has ONLY been a couple months :-)

We enjoyed the day although it was too short - wish we could have gotten there earlier. I had 45 minutes and Mark less than that. We forgot the implements of destruction again for the launch - it's really growing up (weeds, etc.)

Congratulations to Steve on his flight and MANY thanks to Greg and Terry for their help in getting our vehicle to the LZ. Thank you!

It was great seeing Ed in the air again - hope to see more of you this coming year.

Heck, *lot's* better than good, I had a great time! Some very light thermals to about 1000' over (for me, I was last off, the rest of the second wave did better). Then primarily ridge lift that gradually got lighter and lighter towards sunset (never really went magic). But I stuck it out until after 8:00; I'm sure that the wuffos on the rock must have been sick of seeing me cruise back and forth at 100' over ;-) . Whole flock of turkey vultures were working the rockpile by the end of my flight, it was pretty neat flying co-altitude with that many at one time. I chased one or two. Or three or four... :-)

Susan didn't fly, but I was glad to see that she'd brought her glider along!

BTW: Kurt found a pair of wheels in the HR LZ about a week ago. If you are missing a pair, give him a shout.

Unfortunately, the day ended on a sour note when I got side-swiped by a minivan less than 3 minutes from home :( Driver tried to do a u-turn from the right lane, didn't see me in the left. Sore today, but no big deal; car on the other hand looks pretty sad. *sigh*

My wheels! 3.5" halls brothers snap-ons, black, very used? whoo hoo! Although I must say my landings have been PERFECT ever since I lost them.
