The first High Rock flight of the 3rd millenium was made by Kelvin Pierce, who flew today (01/01/01) for 1 hour and 700' above launch.
Conditions were cold but smooth, with winds 15 to 22 mph on launch. Sporadic thermals allowed many of us to climb higher than the towers. The whole ridge was working well, providing for repeated trips to the North point.
I got 1 hr and 650 over, landing just in time to save my fingers and toes from frostbite.
Others who flew (for as long as they wanted to):
Ed Reno
Bob Gillisse
Mike Chevalier
Gary Smith
Terry Spencer
Kelvin reported that Marvin Presley had arrived earlier, but departed around noon.
As I signed the log at Emmas, I read that Brian Hardwick had flown High Rock on 12/26/00 for an hour, making Brian's the last High Rock flight of the 2nd millenium.

New Year's day (01-01-01) aka; 2001 a space oddity.
What a great way to start off the new millennium; A nice flight at High Rock of close to an hour, 600+/- over. Stopped to give Kelvin Pierce a ride up from the LZ where he kindly offered to observe for me at launch. Thanks Kelvin; I owe you one or two!!!!
Ed Reno and Sparky were already boating around and Terry Spencer and Mike Chevalier were setting up. The top of the "rock" was fairly slick so Mike C. spread some coal ash, (compliments of Christy Huddle) which was very effective in improving the footing.
Mike C. launched and started climbing right away. I launched into 10-15 smooth-straight in wind with the assistance of Kelvin, Sparky and Terry. Muchas Gracias tres amigos.
It was a great flight with smooth air and lift extending well out into the valley. The wind chill was probably hovering around +2 degrees but I was layered up to the point where I resembled the Pillsbury Dough Boy and I was comfortable for the whole flight.
After touchdown, Terry and I caught a ride back up with Ed Reno to pick up our vehicles. Thanks Ed.
Wrapped up the day with a fine "Roy Roget" dinner with Terry.
