Doug reported getting 3 hours at Woodstock yesterday. Small punchy thermals in the beginning, then it got really nice. McAllister and another pilot (Marvin?) landed near New Market with Adam driving for them. Steve K launched after getting the H2 Terry off.

ignominious sink out at New Market. This time I at least had company -- Homer sank out there too. And I was doing so well! Climbed out to 2k over at launch almost immediately and headed for the gap. Arrived with maybe 1500 over. A few 360s and I was back to 2k; pulled string and went for it losing only 700 ft. Totally cruised Short Mtn maintaining about 500 over the ridge without working anything. An easy climb back to 2k for the jump back from Short. But here I got the first indication of trouble: I was getting rotored pretty badly on the back ridge. If it was blowing west, the air should have been clean. Rotor meant a NW or maybe even NNW. This did not bode well for the New Market gap where the ridge turns west. And sure nuff -- soon as I got past the bend everything just died. Plus Homer radioed he was on the ground at New Market. Sigh. I tried for awhile but decided the order of the day was to avoid becoming a tree ornament so I put it down. Besides, I didn't want to disappoint my public. I have sunk out at NM so many times the locals know me. There is cousin Sherm who owns the trailer with the wind indicator American flag who always lets me use his cell phone. And there is Mrs Jennings nee Rickard who went to Paul Jr. High in DC with my wife's sister and likes to talk. Y'all drop in again next time you head for Harrisonburg. Yeah. Sure. Thanks to Adam an almost Hang 2 from Winchester and Homer protege for the retrieve.

The rest of the troops decided not to try it. There was Doug W, Marvin, Bob Radcliffe and a hang 2 named Terry Spencer that I decided to throw off even though I didn't know him. Not generally a good idea I realize but he convinced me it was ok.
