I took off Monday as well as a few others and went to Woodstock. I had a gut feeling it was going to be a good day and since I haven't had a decent mountain soaring flight for almost 2 months I was due. Most of the pilots arrived at the LZ around 12:00 and then we headed up. Wind was coming in 5-15 with occasional gust a little higher. I launched first at 3:10 getting trashed a little in the slot but flew into great lift ranging from 400 - 1000+ up. In a short while got to 4200 above. Lyman whose got around 20 hours, is a h2 launched and was soaring 1000+ out front when a down cycle happened and we both got below launch. We both worked some lift and got above. Some other pilots started launching around 4:00 which included Rich Lawrence, Ed Saunie(sp?), Tom McGowan. I got some great lift again between the front and rear ridge and out front and got to 7071 AGL which was above some of the cumis. Flew all the way out past 81 and back! Flew 3:05 and was one of my highest flights at Woodstock. Could have gone over the back or down the ridge but was just happy getting altitude and some time. Cost me a downtube in landing in the moderately high grass but since I haven't broken a dt for a few years was well worth it. After most of us had landed we went up and launched Ray Mitchel who flew through nice lift on the ridge but went out and landed. Tom also got 3:00 hours. YES!

Just a brief note about today's flying:
I arrived at launch around 1:30pm and Geoff Mumford was already in the air about 1500' over. Dave Proctor launched next and then Judy. Then, me. I had a good launch, but didn't enjoy the punch from the left when exiting the slot, even though I was expecting it. It was easy to get up. Air had areas of strong lift and sink. I got up to 1500' over and occasionally punched through to 2000' over. The air was smoother up high. Others launching after me were: Steve Kinsley, Dan Tomlinson, Christy and Doug. Everyone got as high as me or higher. Many went down the ridge, but returned to land in the primary lz, except for Dan who landed in the secondary. I eventually landed in order to secure my vehicle. (Thanks, Christy!)
It was great to have a nice long flight, even though the air was a little trashy.
A good day to fly!

Signed Jim Dullaghan off on his hang 3 today. Flying stank. Sleds.
Looked promising early.
