I went down to Manquin yesterday to try out a few things on my glider. I wanted to adjust the hang strap location and length and try out a few other settings on my pod harness pitch adjustment. I also wanted to patch a small "road rash" spot on my sail. Steve Wendt helped me with the patch and all the adjustments -- and towed me through the "trial and error" method of tuning. Afterwards, he even fashioned a pad for my glider to help prevent further "road rash" damage. It took 7 tows to get comfortable with the adjustments but I'm pleased with the results -- AND I got to practice my landings a bit.

The high pressure atmospheric conditions kept the thermals pretty much squelched so most of the flights were sleds (with one exception). The 90 degree cross wind also kept my tows from getting very high (none over 1000'). However, it was a beautiful day, I got everything accomplished that I wanted -- and even without high, long flights, it was a heck of a lot more fun than being in the office!!

Just a short report on the flying Wednesday. By the time I left home at 1:00, readings were pretty light so I headed to High Rock. When I arrived at 2:00, it was sunny, with wind 10-15 with a slight west cross at launch.

The air was more cross from the west, even though smoke in the valley appeared to be straight in. The air was somewhat rowdy and the thermals appeared to be blown apart. For the first two hours, I couldn't stay high and often was 200' flying in rotor. At 5:00 things smoothed out and I had a nice evening glass off as Bob G. and Marvin P. joined me. Three hours total and 1850' over.

Firsts. First flight in a T shirt this year (froze my butt off. Had to keep pulling out at 2k over). First bike back to launch from the LZ. One hour to the minute with only a maybe 2 minute stop to discuss the bombing of Belgrade with an Emu. Beat it if you can!!! The Kinsley Challenge. $3 prize money. See all the fun you NO SHOWS/NO FLYS missed? Enjoyed sharing the day with Wayne Elseth and some other paraglider folk.

2k over. Crossed over and soared the end of Powell mtn. Terry Spencer tried twice and ended up with sleds both times but he is getting there. You needed to turn low and it was rough low. He brought along his 17 year old niece Charlotte to drive his truck back down the Mtn. A quick course in how to work a standard transmission and she was off. I was a little apprehensive about that part but she did good.
