Everyone I talked to was going to Woodstock, so I drove there after work at 11:30. When I arrived, the other pilots were sitting on launch as conditions were very light. Steve Kinsley went first and sledded. Chuck Pyle was next and he got up for a little while before sinking out. Bacil and Ed launched soon thereafter and had the flights of the day getting above launch and soaring for about 30 minutes. By the time I launched, the wind had left and I took my sled. At least it was a beautiful, warm February day!

Did anyone fly high rock?

It's true. I followed Bacils lead and waited to hear the whooshing sound in the bare tree branches to indicate when the thermals blew through. It turned out to be a pretty reliable indicator. I could even tell if they were to the left or right of launch. There were only about 5 or so before I launched and Mike said there were no more after I left. Bacil and I scrambled for whatever we could catch as small to medium sized bubbles floated up past launch. It was quite hectic: PushpullturnbackfigureeightlightbubblenogoodonepassquicksinkscrambleouteyelevelwithlaunchwatchforconvergingshadowswheresBacilpassontherightgetbacktotheridgetostraighttuckandturnwheresBacilanotherbubblemilkitforanotherpasssinkingout! I managed to hit 450' over. After about a half and hour we both sank out.

And just where was everyone today? . I called around and didn't reach anyone so I figured a few people had to be waiting for a window at HR. I guess no one wanted to gamble on the late NW turn which happened right at 4:30. For an hour it was straight in at 15 with occasional gusts of about 20. And for the second time I sadly watched soarable conditions sink into the sunset.....alone (sniff).
As your Flight Director I direct you to fly, when I'm flying. Darn it.

Ed
